A full day's fun is scheduled for this course that combines morning classes and lunch with your own tutor at local restaurants in the city of Quito / Cusco / Sucre tasting the local cuisine while you continue practicing your Spanish. This way you will be surrounded by the warmth and joy of a true Latin culture in a culinary celebration of art, history, music, and folklore. It is one of the most delicious and wonderful ways to experience a country in a most delightful way! The Andean region is a cornucopia of the international pantry and is impressive many times over: tomatoes, corn, potatoes, chocolate, exotic tropical fruits, corn and much more. Conversation and interaction soar around the table for everyone to share and enjoy, and will create fond memories of Andean cuisine. This is a true Spanish immersion.

ACADEMIA MEDICAL SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM is a language learning program run by Academia Latinoamericana de Espanol in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. It gives medical students and doctors the opportunity to learn Spanish while learning about another country's medical system. Students are exposed to different cultural practices and traditions and also have opportunities to establish relationships with the shared goal of healing and serving those in the community.

Programs are offered in Quito, Ecuador, Cusco, Peru and Sucre, Bolivia. Although the specific itinerary varies, each program will place you in a variety of health care settings and includes discussions and lectures which give an overall picture of the medical practice in Andean countries.

The academic portion of the course consists of 20 hours Spanish lessons per week in a small group. A qualified instructor will teach you medical vocabulary and terminology. Experts in the field will give lectures about the medical systems in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. They will describe characteristic issues of circumstances in our hospitals, private clinics and other health institutions.

In the practical portion you undertake field trips and visits to hospitals and private clinics, with the opportunity to observe doctors and nurses at work. You will accompany them in their daily routines and this way see the differences between working in the medical sector in Latin America and your home country. Many past participants on the Academia Medical Service Learning Program were able to witness surgeries and births, draw blood and suture, give shots, take histories, and witness and help with physical exams IN SPANISH.

Accommodation while enrolled in this course is provided with local families, so you are fully immersed in the Spanish language. Full board is provided, as well as cultural activities and some excursions. We are sure that what you learn by participating in the Academia Medical Service Learning Program will be beneficial and valuable in your medical practice for years to come.
